1833 Dime (1833 Early 10c) ANACS VG8. This medium toned early Capped Bust 1833 Dime has shades of tan, green, and rose. The reverse shows almost cameo contrast between the light devices and the darker field. The grade of VG8 is warranted with a full LIBERTY and all letters and numbers in the legend, motto and date plain.
In 1828 a mechanical improvement called a close collar was introduced at the Mint. It imparted a reeded edge at the same time the coin’s obverse and reverse were struck. This process speeded up coinage and made the coins more uniform.
