1833 10c (1833 Dime) ANACS VG8. Early dime. This early Capped Bust 1833 Dime could easily have graded Fine. It has full rims on both sides, a full LIBERTY on the headband, Liberty’s ear is plain, and the clasp on her left shoulder is faintly outlined. The coin’s devices are light. The fields are darker toned especially towards the rims.
In 1828 William Kneass modified John Reich’s previous design of the Capped Bust dime. The modifications include smaller dentils and uniform diameters because of new equipment at the Mint.
It was felt that uniformity of design would not only speed up the manufacturing process, but it would also deter counterfeiting.
