1861 Seated 50C (1861 Half Dollar) ANACS VG10. This Liberty Seated 1861 Half Dollar has a Civil War date. It has outstanding toning with light devices against a somewhat darker background, especially so on the obverse. The reverse has dark toning within the devices and at the periphery. The fields are extremely clean and free of distractions.
The Liberty Seated half dollar was the workhorse of its day. With a mintage of 2,887,400, it is small compared to today’s mintages but large for its time.
The 1861 is a Variety 1 type (resumed) with a weight standard of Variety 2, 12.44 grams. The various varieties of the Liberty Seated half dollar were used mostly to show changes in weight.
