1891-CC $5 (1891 Half Eagle) NGC XF45. This Carson City Half Eagle has clean surfaces for the grade and an excellent strike. Traces of luster remain within the devices. The grade of XF45 is supported by the presence of all of the details of Liberty’s hair down her neck and most of the line at the top of the coronet above LIBERTY.
The Liberty Head Motto on Reverse half eagle was minted from 1866 to 1908. Designed by Christian Gobrecht, it showed a profile of Liberty wearing a tiara, facing left. The reverse has a heraldic eagle whose head is also facing left. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST was added on a scroll above the eagle by James Barton Longacre.
