1898 $2.5 Quarter Eagle NGC PF61 Cameo, CAC. With a mintage of just 165 pieces, all Proof 1898 quarter eagles are scarce. The example we offer here is a relatively affordable example, but has the quality for the grade to have been stickered by CAC. Furthermore, NGC has awarded this coin with the Cameo designation, and we do not disagree. Deeply reflective fields are seen, with the devices highlighted in a nice manner, in particular on the reverse.

As can be expected for a Proof the strike is sharp, and all details are prominently visible. Dark yellow golden color is seen on both sides, toned to a dark color when tilted. 19th century Proof gold, and in fact all pre 1933 Proof gold is extremely scarce, and any offering should be considered, especially when affordable such as the present piece.
