1955 Franklin Half Dollar (1955 Franklin 50C) PCGS PF66 CAMEO CAC. This mirrored cameo proof 1955 Franklin Half Dollar shows slight peripheral toning on the obverse and somewhat more on the reverse. The obverse is a black and white mirror that is somewhat reduced on the reverse by light haze in the field. The grade of Proof 66 Cameo is confirmed by its CAC sticker. The strike, as expected for a proof coin, is sharp and clear.
The proofs of 1950 were satin finish; however, the proofs of 1951 to 1963, including the present coin, were brilliant. The sharp cameo contrast that is seen on the obverse of this coin indicates that it was among the first struck for coinage. Unlike contemporary proofs, all of which have cameo contrast, the proofs of the 1950’s were mainly without this feature. Mirrored cameo contrast is highly valued by collectors of Franklin halves and collectors of proof types as well as specialists.
