Also made in $5.00, $10.00, and $25.00 denominations in 2008, the Buffalo coins are the first United States Mint 24-karat gold coins. Using an adaptation of James Earle Fraser’s Indian Head design of 1913, they are mandated to be made from newly mined gold from the United States. The Buffalo gold coin is legal tender with its weight and composition guaranteed by the federal government. All Buffalo gold coins are struck at the West Point Mint.
