Confederate Currency: Confederate currency consists of notes and bonds. After the war broke out in 1861, the Confederacy issued its own currency. People who accepted Confederate currency notes and bonds were gambling that the South would win the war. All Confederate currency was hand signed and numbered. Many pieces of Confederate currency had uneven or rough borders. As part of the economic war strategy, the North counterfeited Confederate currency in the hope that it would become worthless. Eventually the currency of the North became the principal means of exchange. As a circulating currency, Confederate money became worthless by the end of the war. Today there is tremendous collector interest in Confederate currency. Their values range from less than a hundred dollars to tens of thousands for the ultra rare notes. Confederate currency has turned out to be highly interesting from an historical point of view and an excellent collectable that keeps increasing in value.
