1821 10C NGC MS-64 Ex: Pittman. A prime uncirculated example of this capped bust half dime. With 1,186,512 pieces struck for circulation this was the first dime with a mintage of more than one million pieces. In true mint state however, pieces are surprisingly hard to find, especially when as original as this piece.
This coin was once part of the collection assembled by John Jay Pittman. Born in 1913, Pittman was known to select his pieces on eye-appeal and this dime is no exception. His collection was sold over three auctions in 1997-1998-1999 and attracted a lot of attention because of the overall quality of his collection.
Well-struck, the coin is toned in vivid blue colors. Under this toning, prooflike surfaces are seen on both sides. Completely original with no distracting marks. An exceptional example, this is the so-called large date, as differentiated in the red book.
