$10 Gold Eagle NGC AU55. Certified by NGC in a new holder,
this gold eagle is of premium quality. Totally original,
with exceptional eye-appeal making it a true collector
coin. Only slightly circulated, this piece is an affordable
gold coin from the storied Mint in Carson City, Nevada.
Mintages of the 1882-CC eagle dropped considerable,
with only 6,765 pieces produced. Deposits rose during
this year, but most was put into double eagles. Of
the total mintage, an estimated 200 to 235 pieces
are known to Rusty Goe, in his book “The Mint
On Carson Street”. Although only one piece has
been certified as Mint State, he estimates that as
much as four pieces might be known in all grades.
These however, come very seldom on the market, making
choice AU pieces such as the present coin excellent
The strike of this coin is exceptionally strong,
with all details, including the radial lines in the
obverse stars brought up to full detail. Struck from
slightly prooflike dies, abundant luster is apparent
on both sides. Only slight wear from circulation is
seen on the highest points of both sides, and the
fields are especially free form circulation marks.
