1875
20C Seated Liberty Twenty Cents, Judd-1407, Pollock-1550,
Low R.6, PR66 PCGS. The obverse is virtually identical
to the regular issue design, but with letters of LIBERTY
incuse, much like all other denominations of this design.
The reverse has the denomination 1/5 OF A DOLLAR within
a wreath with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA above and TWENTY
CENTS below. Struck in silver with a plain edge. An
impressive Gem proof with gray-gold toning across both
surfaces, accented by bright sky-blue toning on each
side and deep watery fields beneath this beautiful original
toning. This is the finest J-1407 to appear at auction
in many years. Even the last regular issue non-pattern
1875 Twenty Cent piece in this condition has not seen
the light of day at auction since 2005 when there were
3 sales recorded in Prf 67 for $33,350.00, $40,250.00,
and $47,150.00. The only Prf 66 regular issue coin sales
have been recorded in August 2001 @ $8912.00, May of
2003 @ $9487.00 and August of 2004 @ $13,225.00 There
have been no other appearances of Judd 1407 in this
condition or better for at least the past 5 years and
perhaps further back than that. This coin is also premium
quality and exhibits even nicer surfaces and strike.
