1855 $50 SSCA Relic Gold Medal "1855 Kellogg & Co. Fifty" Gem Proof PCGS. (no more than 5,000 originally made). This specimen appears to be at least Proof 67 Cameo or better! Here’s the SS Central America- California Historical Society’s example of the Kellogg $50 Territorial Gold coin of the United States. This is a Great big and beautiful gold coin minted from gold recovered from the SS Central America, struck in proof condition and weighing a whopping 2.5 Troy Ounces of .887 fine gold. Ferdinand Gruner was the engraver for the original 1855 Kellogg & Co. fifty of which approximately a dozen specimens exist today. Transfer dies were made from the original dies, and transfer dies struck the present lot. These are one of the most popular of all gold coins minted at any time in US history. Original issue price was in excess of $5,000.00. Seen elsewhere for a lot more than what we are selling them for. This specimen appears to be at least Proof 67 Cameo or better!
