1848 Eagle (1848 $10) PCGS AU53. 1846 $10 Liberty Head, No Motto. Pursuing the concept of Manifest Destiny, at the time this coin was struck the United States was engaged in the Mexican-American War. The belief that America should extend across the continent from the Atlantic to the Pacific Ocean had created tension with Mexico and among other causes resulted eventually in war. This war would expand the nation and in a historic side note bring such prominent personalities as Ulysses S. Grant, Robert E. Lee, and Thomas Jonathon Stonewall Jackson together for the first time in a historic twist of fate.

The 1846 eagle is exceptionally scarce and challenging to locate in about uncirculated grades and ultra rare in mint state. The example offered here is well struck and has retained ample luster despite being circulated. The greenish gold fields are free of major distractions. Overall this specimen has a charming and wholly original look that is ardently sought by advanced collectors and exceedingly hard to find with the myriad of doctored coins in the market today.
