Yet, many pieces show considerable striking weakness, a problem which is found on many Dahlonega coins. 1850-D quarter eagles are often weakly struck in the centers, or on the highest points of the obverse stars, causing incomplete radial lines. Other pieces have been cleaned, dipped or otherwise damaged, lacking the originality many collectors prefer when building specialized sets. In the future, more collectors will pay attention to original coins, and prices will rise for original pieces and be lower for dipped and dull coins.

The present coin is very original, with lots of luster still visible in the protected areas. Although some weakness is noted, it is much better struck than usually found, with strong definition in the centers and on the stars. The coin has naturally toned to a darker green-yellow gold color, often found on coins from this issue. Perfect value as Mint State pieces have traded for multiples of the price we offer this coin at. The coin has also been stickered by CAC for exceptional quality, and we can not argue with that at all.
