1855 Arrows Half Dime1855 Arrows H10C NGC MS65. This beautifully toned, Gem Arrows 1855 Half Dime comes with a CAC sticker that attests to the coins premium quality and indicates that it fully merits the Gem grade it was assigned. This 1855 Half Dime coin is fully lustrous and shows Libertys head bathed in orange, gold, silver and light lavender toning. Most of the obverse is toned light lavender and steel-grey. The reverse of this 1855 Half Dime shows more rainbow toning in the center with speckles of gold and orange. The strike of this 1855 Half Dime is above average with full details on the centers of the stars, Libertys head, and most of the wreath leaves. Unlike many coins of this date, the numerals are strong.

Because of a rise in the price of sliver by 1851, silver coins had vanished from circulation. Most were melted and some were hoarded. To remedy this situation the Mint reduced the weight of all silver coins, except for the dollar. Since they were anxious to bring these lighter coins to the public to relieve the shortage, the new coins were marked with arrowheads before and after the date instead of redesigning them. The arrowheads were used from 1853 to 1855. After 1855 the arrowheads were omitted, but the new weight standard continued.

The half dime was a silver coin minted in the United States that was valued at five cents. It was the first coin minted by the United States Mint under the Coinage Act of 1792 when the half disme was produced. They were produced until 1873, when they were displaced by the copper-nickel five cent coin that was first issued in 1865. The Liberty Seated half dime was the last type made.

Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the half dime depicts Liberty seated looking over her shoulder to the left. She balances the Union Shield inscribed LIBERTY with her right hand and holds a staff on which is placed a Phrygian cap in her left. There are seven stars to the left and six to the right interrupted by her head and the capped pole. The dated is below. The reverse shows the denomination written in two words surrounded by an open laurel wreath. The inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA is at the edge. Dentils are around the periphery of both sides of the coin.

In its population report, NGC shows 29 1855 Half Dimes in MS65 condition with 8 better. At CAC as of April 2012, there is 1 1855 Half Dime in MS65 with 2 better.
