1875A France 20F NGC MS62. Ex-Eliasberg. This 1875-A French 20 francs gold piece comes with the provenance of the famous Eliasberg Collection. The coin shows subdued mint luster within the devices. Very light surface abrasion and a few marks on the thigh keep it from a higher mint state grade. The strike shows slight central weakness on the obverse but is strong on the reverse.
The obverse depicts the Winged Genius of the Revolution, shown as a guardian angel, leaning against a column writing the Constitution on a tablet. It is set above the signature of the engraver, Augustine Dupr. On either side of the figure are faces, the Roman symbol of authority, and a rooster, the symbol of France. The reverse of the coin shows the denomination and date set in a wreath, surrounded by the motto of the Revolution Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite (Liberty, Equality, Brotherhood) with the mintmark A for the mint in Paris below.
