1892-S Eagle (1892-S $10) PCGS MS63. This rare, branch mint 1892-S Eagle has a full strike and bright mint luster. The centers of the stars, the highest points of Libertys hair, the eagles neck, and the lower portion of the shield are strong and bold. No wear is seen on the coin, as expected for a mint state grade.

The Coronet Eagle Liberty Head Motto, designed by Christian Gobrecht, shows Liberty facing left wearing a LIBERTY inscribed coronet with her hair tied in the back in beads. Two long curls hang down her neck, one in the back and the other on the side. She is surrounded with thirteen six-pointed stars. The date is below the truncation, which shows no drapery. The motif is taken from a Benjamin West painting of Venus. It was also used with modifications for the Large Cents of 1839. The reverse shows a heraldic eagle with outstretched wing looking to the left. On its chest is the Union shield. In its talons it holds the olive branch and arrows.

The error in the previous issue, Scots eagle held the arrows and the olive branches in the wrong talons, is corrected. Except for the tips of the eagles wings UNITED STATES OF AMERICA surrounds the reverse, separated from the denomination TEN D. by dots. Dentils are near the edge on both sides of the coin, and the edge is reeded. The motto IN GOD WE TRUST was added in 1866 on a ribbon above the eagles head. The mintmark is below the eagle and above the denomination.

The motto was place on United States coins because of the increased religious feeling during the Civil War. Secretary of the Treasury Salmon P. Chase received many letters from people throughout the country asking that the Deity be recognized on our coinage. The first appeal came from the Reverend M.R. Watkinson of Ridleyville, Pennsylvania.

In its population report, PCGS has 52 certified in MS63 with only 1 better.
