1925 Half Dollar (1925 50C) Stone Mountain, PCGS MS65. This outstandingly beautiful 1925 Stone Mountain commemorative Half Dollar has shimmering luster on the devices with light toning in the fields. The colors range from tan and blue-grey to gold and russet. The toning is darker towards the periphery. The reverse shows medium grey toning with highlights of blue and darker golden tan at the top near the edge. A couple of ticks on Robert E. Lees leg and stirrup and horses leg keep this coin from an even higher mint state grade. The strike is average with some central weakness on both sides as well as on the eagles breast and the obverse stars.

Designed by Gutzon Borglum, the horse mounted figures represent Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee. The 35 stars represent all of the states, North and South, as of 1865. The figures of Jackson and Lee are part of a huge procession carved into the mountain by Borglum, who also sculpted Mount Rushmore. The reverse inscription was supposed to mention former President William Harding, but then the current president, Calvin Coolidge objected, and Hardings name was left out.
