1886 $3 Three Dollars Gold, Indian Princess, PCGS
Proof 62 Cameo CAC. Undergraded by a mile in our opinion.
This coin originates from the Stecher Collection which
sold in Charlotte NC in 2007 where it was descibed
as follows: 1886 $3 PR63 Cameo PCGS. Frosty devices
and glittering fields ensure the proof status of this
desirable three dollar gold piece. The strike is needle-sharp,
even on the wreath bow, the veins of the cotton leaves,
and the highpoints of Liberty's tresses.
Splashes of red-orange toning contribute further
to the eye appeal. No field imperfections are worthy
of discussion, and any numismatist would be proud
to own such a commanding specimen. A mere 142 proofs
were struck, a number of which were presumably spent
by heirs. Karl Stecher, Sr. purchased this piece for
$12.00 as lot 1165 in a circa-1940 Barney Bluestone
auction. Comes with the Stecher Insert!
