April 10, 2025 - All We Want Are A Few Good Coins To Put Away

Hi All,

I hope all is well. Well the big reset appears to be underway and many of us, a majority I think, are happy to see this reset finally happening. Trade deals that were signed before helped wipe out the industrial base those of us with the digit 6 or 7 in our age group can remember.

I grew up in Garwood NJ and one of my first jobs was at a factory called Accurate Bushing where I trained to be a "honer" that is someone who finely grinds the inner dimensions of bushings that are used in jet aircraft engines. It was a good paying job that I worked at one summer as a teenager and I enjoyed it although it didn't fit with what my life's plans were however would not be a bad choice at all for many. Those jobs are few and far between nowadays. A quick internet search reveals they are still there in Garwood. But large factories which existed in Garwood that I remember driving past are long gone. One can see that wreckage all over the country and especially in the northeast, midwest, anyone driving thru Pennsylvania on I-95 can see the abandoned factories along the way. I can only imagine Detroit.

In the world of numismatics it was the "midwest" collector that dominated so many areas of coins. On all levels it was collectors that somehow someway were benefitting from America's industrial might, were also smart enough to set aside these gold, silver, copper and nickel round objects with In God We Trust on them. Some of these collectors were the backbone of this business and I can think of one who was a pioneer i the vending machine business from early on, to a giant glass manufacturer in New Jersey who has been in business 100 years and who once told me when I was just starting out and feeling low because of the rotten news the press always seems to focus on told me "Tom there are always opportunities out there but they are not going to find you, you have to search for them yourself". Another fellow who built a complete set of high grade $3.00 gold coins. He never went to college but worked in a foundry and invented a part that General Motors paid him a good sum of money for with royalties that go on forever and I could go on and one listing literally dozens of great Americans who I have personally worked with, personally met and even spent time in their homes on occasion.

I believe we are about to see a new beginning in terms of manufacturing and we already know about trillions of dollars being committed to invest in the USA from a giant honda plant to a steel plant to a giant chip plant and maybe we can learn to be more self sufficient as a result of this. Are happy days here again? I think so but I'm always an optimist. More jobs mean more coin collectors and coin people. This is a good thing for our hobby isn't it? I believe that as a result of these new jobs being created a percentage of those working men and women will find out about numismatics and some will collect and some will invest. Either way the coin business benefits. I hope you don't mind my opinion on these subjects.

1848 $2.50 NGC AU50

OK numismatists, here's perhaps one of the greatest sleepers in American gold. An 1848 quarter eagle same same in AU-50 but showing a Cal is valued at approx $50,000.00 Please check the populations of the Cal and this No Cal then send me an email or phone call to purchase.

Once upon a time yours truly was on the front page of Numismatic News for handling 3 1834 Capped Bust quarter eagles which 2 were mint state simultaneously. Here's a copy of that sale THREE SOLD AT ONCE Those coins have quadrupled in value and when was the last time you saw one I know that over a period of just a couple of years with great focus I went out with my partners to find them and buy them. There was an estimated dozen or so that existed and I bought 9 of them. While I'm not claiming that the 1848 No Cal is as rare as the 1834 capped bust quarter eagles I am saying that a significant opportunity presents itself that is way more advantageous in owning a few No Cal's than a single CAL. Check the pops and compare the prices. What do you think This specimen quite nice overall, Strong detail; looks 55 and only
