1908 Indian Quarter Eagle NGC Proof-67 . A glorious,
nearly flawless example of this first year of issue
Indian Head quarter eagle. The surfaces display the
heavy matte texture imparted by the dies and the distinctive
deep yellow-orange color that is so often encountered
on Matte Proof gold coins such as this. This is the
first year of the Matte Proof Indian series and as such
, there is a greater demand for this date than most
others. These early Matte Proof gold issues were not
initially popular with collectors and sales generally
drifted lower until the denomination was no longer offered
in a Proof format (1915 being the last year Proofs were
struck of this design). Exceptional strike and magnificent
in every aspect. NGC Census: 25; none finer.
