1872-CC Double Eagle , NGC AU-55, Surviving specimens of this date are estimated to be in the 350-400 examples in all grades. The fact that more show in the census report would indicate that many of these coins have been coins that were cracked out and resubmitted. Auction showings would bear out the estimates of 350-400 existing specimens. Here’s another early date Carson City Double Eagle, with lovely surfaces and a better than average strike.
