1850 Double Eagle, Choice About Uncirculated graded by NGC AU-53 ! This is our favorite double eagle date along with the 1850-O double eagle. These are the very first collectible double eagles of the US with the 1849 double eagle being impounded at the Smithsonian National Museum Collection. The present specimen is a very well struck example with very minimal marks.

The vast majority of 1850 "Twenties" come very marked up and are generally weakly struck. This specimen almost has the attributes of a different date as it's quite sharp. Nice mint luster shows on both obverse and reverse . Would make a great first Type I Double Eagle for the collector and should prove to be a good investment as more and more coin collectors and coin investors buy Type I Double Eagles.
