1847/7 $5 Half Eagle Gold Coin, AU58
NGC. Breen-6570. The top of the 7 is prominently repunched.
Not to be confused with the "Top of Extra 7"
Guide Book variety, which is Breen-6571. Determined
cherrypickers can locate several different repunched
date and misplaced date varieties of the 1847. Well
struck and partly lustrous with a pleasantly unmarked
appearance. This is one of the nicer examples we have
seen over the years and seems to be quite undervalued.
A genuinely nice specimen that appears fully mint state
uncirculated and will please the fussiest Numismatist.
Half Eagle gold coins in general seem like such a bargain
to us and with just a little investor activity should
see some price increases in the years ahead.
