1861 Half Eagle NGC AU55 CAC. A very original gold coin from the year the civil war commenced. Stickered by CAC for exceptional quality, this is a very nice coin. Considerable luster shows on both sides, with only the slightest friction on the highest points. During almost 150 years, the coin has acquired very nice gold-green patina on both sides. The fields on both sides are remarkably clean for the grade, indicating only the slightest use in commerce, most likely after the civil war had ended. A very high quality example of this popular gold issue!
