Kellogg & Co. Fifty" Gem Proof PCGS. (#1832
of no more than 5,000 originally made). This specimen
appears to be at least Proof 67 Cameo or better! Here’s
the SS Central America- California Historical Society’s
example of the Kellogg $50 Territorial Gold coin of
the United States. This is a Great big and beautiful
gold coin minted from gold recovered from the SS Central
America, struck in proof condition and weighing a whopping
2.5 Troy Ounces of .887 fine gold. Ferdinand Gruner
was the engraver for the original 1855 Kellogg &
Co. fifty of which approximately a dozen specimens exist
today. Transfer dies were made from the original dies,
and transfer dies struck the present lot. These are
one of the most popular of all gold coins minted at
any time in US history. Original issue price was in
excess of $5,000.00. Seen elsewhere for a lot more than
what we are selling them for. This specimen appears
to be at least Proof 67 Cameo or better!
