1889 Double Eagle PCGS MS62. From
a small mintage of only 44,070 coins struck for circulation,
this is a splendid uncirculated survivor. Certified
by PCGS as MS-62, we consider this coin to be of very
premium quality as such. While MS-62 pieces, such as
this piece come to the market with some regularity,
MS-63 graded coins are very rare, with a big price jump
between those grades.
Type three double eagles are generally regarded to
be mostly common, but this is not always the case.
This issue already had a low mintage, the early 1890’s
brought mintages of just 1,390 double eagles in 1891
and 4,430 in 1892. As a result, a full set of type
three double eagles is a remarkably challenge, which
should prove to be very rewarding when it comes to
selling.
Remarkably clean for the grade, the present coin
has strong claims for actually being such a MS-63
coin. Full, satiny luster shows on both sides, which
show an original yellow-green color. Boldly struck,
the coin shows full detail on both sides. A wonderful
example of this scarce issue, seldom offered in such
fine state of perseveration.
