1862 Gold Dollar NGC MS64 CAC. A fully and choice uncirculated example of this popular civil war date. One of the most common gold dollars, as many were saved following the duration of the civil war, this is a near gem gold dollar. This coin displays a much stronger strike than the average piece found in the current market.
The later gold issues from the 1860 and later did not circulate as much as the other denominations did after the civil war. As a result, mintages radically decreased, with this one of the last issues with a mintage of more than 1,000,000 pieces. However, many were saved making the type three gold dollars a very interesting, and affordable set of gold coinage. However, as they are very small, most people stay away from them and prices have stayed relatively low.
The present coin is one of the strongest MS-64’s we have ever seen. Full luster highlights the choice surfaces, virtually mark-free with just a couple of small pinscratches. An affordable example of this affordable, high-quality, coin struck during the American civil war.
