1825 50C NGC AU58. A lovely album-toned
example of this capped bust half dollar. Most likely
never circulated, only some very small friction appears
on both sides, most likely from handling by collectors.
2,943,166 half dollars were struck in 1825. With
the half dollar the largest silver denomination seen
in general commerce, many were spent and served for
a considerable time in circulation. This piece escaped
that destiny, and was saved and stored carefully for
a long time.
A strong strike highlights on lustrous surfaces.
No major distractions are noted on either side, which
are toned to blue, red and orange patina. Although
the small friction wear accounts for the 58 grade
given by NGC, this is one of the true gem AU pieces.
The present piece is a great example for anyone seeking
a truly original capped bust half dollar.
