1892-CC Liberty Half Eagle, NGC AU50, CAC, P.Q. Scarce
date Carson City Half Eagle, in a grade that is becoming
increasingly more difficult to find. These wild west
gold coins are sought after not only by collectors
but investors too! This specimen displays a green
sticker from CAC.
From the second to last year of production at the
Carson City Mint comes this fully original, and scarce
as such, five dollar gold piece. Much scarcer than
the mintage of 82,968 pieces would suggest, many have
heavily circulated and come with problems like cleaning
or damaged surfaces. Finding a fully, lightly circulated
examples has become increasingly difficult, and we
are happy to be able to offer such a piece.
While lightly circulated, some traces of luster is
still visible in the protected fields, making it a
pleasing and premium quality example of this scarce
gold coin from the popular Nevada Mint. When the Mint,
located in the capital of the silver state closed
during the spring of the following year, it had been
producing coins since 1870. Except for a small halt
in the production during the mid 1880s, many denominations
were produced, and virtually all of these are now
considered to be scarce coins, with many rarities.
With the above said, Carson City gold coins are usually
regarded as very expensive, and are often avoided
by many collectors who will prefer the more available
Morgan silver dollars that made this Mint popular.
While some of the earlier and low mintage issues are
certainly prime rarities, the present coin is a good
exception to that rule.
With a mintage that is a fraction of many of the
Morgan silver dollar issues, we have it priced under
$1,000, making it only marginally more expensive than
one of the common coins struck at the Philadelphia
or San Francisco Mints. With its lightly circulated
surfaces that display pleasing gold-green coloration,
the overall eye-appeal is excellent.
No major marks are noted on either side, and additionally,
this coin has been stickered by CAC. A perfect, lightly
circulated representative of a scarce gold coin struck
during the last years of the Carson City Mint.
