Gold Dollar - The 1875 Gold Dollar had a tiny mintage
of 400. All examples are fully prooflike with mirrored surfaces.
Only 78 have been certified of this date by both grading
services. Three MS66 examples are the finest known.
The Resumption Act of 1875 provided for
the replacement of the Civil War fractional currency notes
by silver coins. It also reduced the amount of greenbacks
in circulation. The Civil Rights Act of 1875 provided that
everyone regardless of race, color, or previous condition
of servitude would get the same treatment in public accommodations.
In 1875 a horse named Aristides won the
first Kentucky Derby.
