Gold Dollar - The 1885 Gold Dollar had a larger mintage
of 11,156, yet the number of superb coins in existence is
smaller than previous issues. In MS68 only 4 pieces have
been certified by both grading services with none higher.

In 1885 Grover Cleveland was inaugurated,
and the Washington Monument was completed. It is an obelisk
on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. It is the world’s
tallest stone structure and the world’s tallest obelisk.
Construction began in 1848 but was halted
from 1854 to 1877 because of a lack of funds and the intervention
of the Civil War. It was dedicated on February 21, 1885.
