1836 Quarter Eagle (1836 $2.50) Script 8, NGC MS63. A premium quality uncirculated piece of this classic head gold 1836 Quarter Eagle issue. The classic head gold series is a type coin that is very rare in anything higher than MS-61, as most of this pieces circulated heavily among banks. While this will usually not account for actual circulation wear, as they remained in bags, bag marks are a distracting factor on these soft gold coins. This is not the case with this wonderful specimen.
These coins are very rare in MS-63. NGC census shows a mere 17 coins with only 11 higher. This is an excellent opportunity to build a very nice, high grade classic gold set from the 1830’s.
The present coin would be a great addition or beginning to a high-quality set. Although graded MS-63 by NGC, this coin is actually much closer to MS-64. Very frosty, and has a lovely yellow color which makes for a great combination with such booming luster. Fully struck, even in the centers of the coin, which is a rare occurrence with this type.
