$100 Gold Union (Private issue 2007) NGC Ultra Cameo Gem Proof – Designed by George T. Morgan, famous for his creation of the Silver dollar that now is named after him, this design was never materialized in 1876 or later, when this huge denomination was considered.

While the Mint struck Pattern pieces of a $50 denomination (called Half Unions) the $100 remained a sketch on paper. This sketch was discovered in the archive of the Smithsonian institution in 2002, and five years later, in 2007 the private New York Mint struck medals with the design.

These sold out quickly, and are truly pieces of art. Offered here is a gold edition of this medal, containing a full one ounce of gold. Placed in a NGC holder, this is a great investment with the continuing rise in gold price, and something different for the investor in gold coins. The collector will appreciate the beauty of this design, of which this is the only method of owning a struck example.
