1861 Gold Dollar PCGS MS64. Civil War Date. Near gem example of this popular gold dollar, struck in the first year of the American Civil War which would tear apart a nation for many years to come. Virtually mark-free, the clash-marks on the reverse are the most prominent feature on this particular gold coin, the final type of the gold dollar denomination struck until 1889. Some natural planchet roughness is noted on the upper obverse, which adds to the originality of this issue. Light golden color with subdued luster is visible in hand, and in all this is a nice example of this popular Civil War issue.
