1938 Egypt 20 Piastres (Royal Wedding, KM-370) NGC MS-66 - A very nice gold coin minted to commemorate the wedding of King Farouk of Egypt and Queen Farida (born Safinaz Zulficar), the first wedding of the famous King. They married on January 12, 1938, six months after he became King of Egypt in July 1937 at the age of seventeen.

To American coin collectors, he is mostly known as the owner of one of the most magnificent sets of American coinage, which, unfortunately were often cleaned by his staff. The most famous coin of his collection no doubt was the 1933 double eagle, legally exported and now the most expensive coin ever sold at public auction.

This piece, with a mintage of just 20,000 pieces weighs 1.7 grams and is struck in .8750 fine gold. Obviously, the gold content is not really important here, as the historic importance reveals it easily. The example we offer here is in premium condition, certified by NGC as MS-66. Fresh gold color and a sharp strike highlights the surfaces, which further all details written in the Arabic language and lettering. No marks are worth to be mentioned individually, and in all this is a nice coin for both the world coin collector as well as the American collector seeking an historic example minted during the reign of King Farouk I.

Happy Collecting,
Thomas M. Pilitowski
