Incredible
originality on this small star reverse 1799 half
eagle. Hard to imagine how this 200+ year old
early US gold half eagle has remained so free
of the imperfections prevelent on so many of these
issues.
Terrific
early half eagle pedigreed to the famous Bass
Collection. We have personally seen coins that
their holders suggested they were finer by 2 points
clearly not as nice as this wonderful specimen.
Is
it cabinet friction that keeps this wonderful
early half eagle from grading higher? We think
it's a close call. Very P.Q. and quite reasonably
priced for this beauty.
Mint
state 1804 and a wisp away from choice. You will
not find another 1804 half eagle as nice as this
specimen unless the holder says MS-63 and even
then, the comparisons will be close.
Small
"D" variety, which is confirmed by the
mintmark D being positioned over the V in FIVE.
This specimen is the 10-G variety which is shown
by the D mintmark centered over the VE of FIVE.
Gem
63 +++. Oh so close to MS-64. Certainly if you
cover the grade on the holder we think more people
would assign a 64 grade to this specimen. Rare.
Combined population of 0/0 + 2/1 respectively.
Trends 15K.
Lovely
and rare Carson City gold half eagle. In lower
grades this date is considered almost common however
in uncirculated grades, and particulary choice
uncirculated this date is rare. Tied finest graded
both services with pops at 5/0 + 6/0.
